What the cake pop...?
If only it were so simple.
Tomorrow is my husband's birthday, and he's always loved cake pops. I've never made them, and even Starbucks in Portugal doesn't carry them. So I figured I could do it. When I bought the sticks, a handy mould caught my eye, and 20 euros later I felt high on the possibility of crafting beautiful pops. But the pink rubbery thing only created Saturn-like balls, each with their own distinct ring around the middle. So I hopped online and found out that most people crumble the cake, mix it with some frosting, and them make the balls by hand. I knew this was the perfect job for my kids. They had a blast getting their hands full of sticky chocolate cake crumbs! Now, however, I'm stuck. The pink thing, supposedly which doubles to hold the pops to decorate them, is flimsy and so that pops careened in every which way. I ran out to the store to buy styrofoam and just found a long cylinder that I had to cut into rounds with a sushi knife. No, the lines aren't straight, and my "holders" slope to the side. The "icing" I'm attempting to coat them with is just a melted white chocolate bar, and maybe I over-heated it, because it has formed into the shape of my bowl. The sprinkles won't stick to the ones I did earlier, and there's certainly no dipping the balls into this messy chocolate, and so I'm slathering it on with a spoon. It's almost 11pm and I've re-heated old coffee left in pot and am eating handfuls of candy corn. Clearly I'd rather write about these pops than actually make them.
