There's still an edge
It wasn't until I was dressed for the dressage test and on my horse, stomach in knots and trying to breath through my anxiety, that I realized it had been over 20 years since I last competed in any formal way. Playing card or board games or doing trivia contests hardly counts, and horseback riding and playing softball were the last ways in which I competed. All of that ended when I went to college at age 18.
Given that realization, I relaxed on my horse and remembered my goal: start and finish the test. Nothing more. My score was low, but the experience was exhilarating. I think I will put those white pants on many more times. The beautiful thing about dressage is that age is never a detriment; as long as I am fit enough to get on the horse, I can compete.
